"My name is Ionut... I am 13 years old. I live in an orphanage in Galati Romania.
I lived with my family until I was 6 years old. It was at this time that we were thrown out of our house because we couldn’t pay our bills. My father died one month before this happened.
We moved in with our grandmother where we stayed for three years. After that we had to leave and stay in the orphanage because my mother’s sister family moved in with us.
It was a sudden change for us having to leave our mother, but in time, we got used to it and we understood. Time has passed and now I understand that I can still do something good for me and for others and that is painting. Then I became part of the Art Oasis Painting Class. I can say that something has changed in my life and the possibility of a good future has become possible. My desire to draw is more free. Being there I met other children and the director of this class Miss Camelia. She is a modest woman and she helps us to overcome some very difficult things and this helps us move forward. I feel like a child who has more than one mother. Our teachers encourage us to tell what’s on our minds and I am very close to them.
The sponsor of this association is Kay Phillips and she is like our teachers and Miss Camelia, we can get attached to her and she is very responsible and she is loved by everyone.
I study when I have to, but when I have some free time I draw and I paint.
When I draw I feel like there is a little man in my mind who asks me to let him go so he can show me what he knows and what he can do so that I feel good.
I also like to read books, take walks and ride a bicycle.I can ride on a bicycle for a very long time because I can relax while I do this.
